Stage Fifty developing three UK film studio sites creating over 300,000 square feet of production ready stage space

Stage Fifty promises production-ready sound stages that can be built anywhere in just four months. Three UK film studio sites from Stage Fifty are currently in development, creating over 300,000 square feet of high-quality stage space.

The new and innovative system promises the durability of a permanent stage with the flexibility of a moveable structure with two large sound stages already prototyped and tested.

Across the UK there are numerous new and expanding studios projects are in the works to address the demand for sound stages. Stage Fifty’s resusable modular system differs because it promises sustainability, speed of construction and total flexibility of location.

Stage Fifty is collaborating with semi-permanent structure experts, SPANTECH, utilising its professionally engineered Grand I-novation aluminium system as the base for the sound stages. SPANTECH's modular design offers durability, adaptability, plus environmental benefits, and as no foundations are required, it gives greater flexibility. The standard sizes ranging from 9,400 to 32,000 square feet and a floor to grid height of 10 to 15 metres.

The name Stage Fifty reflects the company’s mission to create at least one million square feet of high-quality and reusable production space, equating to fifty sound stages in the next three years. Stage Fifty CEO James Enright said “Stage Fifty can turn a backlot, an airfield or any piece of suitable land into a sound stage, giving studios and producers the flexibility to film wherever and whenever it's convenient for them. And our on-site build time is just four months.

“Together with the team at SPANTECH, we’ve designed a game-changing solution with the durability of a permanent stage that can be moved and used again and again.

"Engineered to the highest professional specification, the stages are soundproofed, rigged, ventilated, and production-ready. These next-generation stages offer practical and financial flexibility, making them attractive to major studios, streaming services, and landowners who see an opportunity to convert unused spaces into a revenue stream rapidly.

"Two large sound stages have been prototyped, tested and built in the UK as proof of concept. Totalling 30,000 sq ft, the stages are home to an exciting new global series in production for a major streaming service.

“With three new UK studio sites in the pipeline, and a plan to deliver over 300,000 sq ft in the next 12 months, we're well on the way to achieving our ambition of creating one million sq ft of high-quality and relocatable production space in three years."

Demand for sound stages in the UK is higher than ever due to award-winning British talent and crew and attractive tax reliefs. A recent report by the British Film Commission revealed international film and high-end television production spend in the UK topped £2.34bn in 2020.
