NCIS: Hawai’i begins filming

NCIS: Hawai’i is the third NCIS spinoff series. NCIS: Los Angeles, which is still in production, and NCIS: New Orleans, which has been wrapped its seventh and final series in 2021. NCIS: Hawai'i joins a number of long-running series that shoot on the pacific islands.

CBS are familiar with Hawaii as a base for productions. Magnum P.I. has shot in Hawaii since 2018, and Hawaii Five-0 filmed ten series in Hawaii from 2010 to 2020.

The NCIS spinoff will have the first female lead in the franchise, played by Vanessa Lachey (Dads, Call Me Kat). Production is set to continue until December 2021.

Hawaii provide filming incentives, with a 20% tax credit offered for filming on the island of Oahu. This lifts to 25% for filming on neighbour islands. Productions must meet the minimum in-state spending requirement of at least USD200,000 to access and make reasonable efforts to hire local talents and crew.
