Searchlight Pictures' Dust to begin filming in New Mexico

New thriller Dust from Searchlight Pictures will begin filming in New Mexico. New Mexico State Office director Amber Dodson made the announcement 5 August 2022. The film is set to star Sarah Paulson and Annaleigh Ashford.

With direct production spending reaching a record USD855.5 million so far this year, New Mexico has been an established filming hub for 2022. From Stranger Things to long-time production residents Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the dust covered landscapes have been a backdrop for many critically acclaimed works.

New Mexico offers a maximum tax credit amount of 35% for local and international filming to be conducted in the state. Such an initiative has seen increased activity in New Mexico following the pandemic induced slowness of the industry.

As Dust begins filming in the state, taking advantage of the incentive, there will also be a knock-on impact for the community. Employing approximately 152 New Mexico crew members and 153 New Mexico background talent, the state is significantly included within all facets of the production process. As a result, the state's contribution to the visual industry is supported by it's well trained and experienced workforce.

The film will be set against the claustrophobia of perilous dust storms, as suggested by the title. Dust will a mother haunted by her past as well as her encounters with threatening presences and the extraordinary measures to protect her family. The project will be directed by Will Joines and Karrie Crouse, longtime collaborators, and produced by Alix Madigan and Lucas Joaquin.
