Socially conscious and female focussed commercials win big at 2022 Gerety Awards

The 2022 winners of the Gerety Awards have been announced today 6 Septemeber 2022. With a range of commercials that continue to resonate with the female audience and possess a sense of social commentary , winners included  Channel 4’s Super Human campaign for the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 and Vice Media’s Unfiltered History Tour.

 

 

The UK saw Grand Prix winners for the Editing in the Craft Cut category for Channel 4’s Super. Human and Illustration in the Craft Cut for #PainStories for Bodyform/Libresse. Super. Human is a product of East London based production company RiffRaff. The campaign for the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 displayed the strength of champions including Ellie Simmons. Bodyform’s #PainStories, which also won Gold in the Communication Cut, is a insight into periods and the multidimensional impact of such on women’s health and social wellbeing.

 

 

Grand jury member and head of global brand strategy at the LEGO Group, UK Imali Hettiarachchi  commented: "Debating world-class work with a group of incredible women from around the world was one of the best invitations I've had - thank you for the honour, Gerety Awards!"

 

Maintaining a socially impactful tone of messaging, Cannes Lions 2022 winner Unfiltered History Tour won the Grand Prix for Alternative media in the Communication Cut. The Vice Media and Instagram AR Filters collaboration is a product of Indian Agency Dentu Webchutney. The immersive critique of the stolen artefacts in the British museum also won the Grand Prix for Mobile in the Experience cut.

 

 

Grand Prix for product and packaging design in the Innovation Cut was won by VMLY&R Mexico City, Mexico with their contribution to the Plasticoff campaign for Whirlpool. The Cannes Lions 2022 recognised work presents the first dissolving packaging for Whirlpool products contributing to the rectification of the declining environmentally sustainable state of the world.

 

“Being a part of a Gerety Award Jury is such an honor and a privilege,” stated Madonna Badger, Founder & Chief Creative Officer of Badger Agency and Grand Jury member for the USA. “Frances Gerety was a legendary woman in advertising. And like most creative women, she appreciated great work no matter the gender of who created it. The work, however, is judged through a female lens, which is so unique and very important to our industry."

 

 

The Awards celebrated the most impactful works from a global roster of agencies. The United States came out on top with a total of 34 statues followed by the United Kingdom with 27. Overall the Awards this year saw 5 recipients of the Grand Prix, 58 winning Gold, Bronze winners at 77 and 139 remaining on the short list. Those collecting Gold, Silver, Bronze and short list recognitions were Belgium with 23 awards, Canada with 20, France and Germany with 14 each and Brazil and the UAE with 10 each.
