Palm Beach announces new film commissioner

The Palm Beach county film and Television commission announced Michelle Hillery as the new film commissioner. Announced by the board of directors on 3 October 2022, the former deputy commissioner will be taking over from Chuck Elderd who held the position for 34 years.

“Chuck and the team have set a high standard for film commissions around the country,” said Hillery. “And my mission is to continue that excellent work by promoting The Palm Beaches as the perfect place to live, work, play and visit, and to shoot your film or TV project.”

During her involvement with the commission in her previous role, economic impact on Palm Beach increased to USD 203 million in 2021, a 167% increase from 1998 which was USD76 million. Working with an annual USD 2 million budget, Hillery supervises all marketing campaigns for print, digital and social media.  Beyond the technical aspects of her field, the newest film commissioner is also keen to promote diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as apart of all commission based projects that come along during her tenure.

“We are delighted to have Michelle on board as Film Commissioner. Her experience not only as Deputy Film Commissioner but also as a former Film Florida President uniquely qualifies her to lead this excellent team of tourism professionals,” stated Carol Roberts, Chair of the Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission.

Gaining experience and expertise, Hillery’s hallmark is her contribution to the Student Showcase of Films. The statewide film competition brings together best of young filmmakers, writers, animators, and graphic designers. The high school and college level entrants have the opportunity to win more than USD 10,000 in prizes.

“We are aiming for Palm Beach County to become the number one place in the world for filmmakers, production companies and more,” said Hillery.

With an impressive 26 years behind her, Hillery started her career as an intern. Hillery’s past experiences include her two-time presidency of Film Florida, membership of the Hall of Fame for the Florida Association for Career & Technical Educators and a 5-time Telly Award winnings.
