The Inspiration Tour brings international showrunners to Côte d’Azur

From 20 to 23 September, a roster of global guests gathered on the Côte d’Azur for an “inspiration tour”, to discover the wonders of the county, from lanscapes to talent. With representatives from the USA, Israel and nations across Europe, attendees included showrunners from critically acclaimed projects such as Westworld, Mad Men and Insecure.

"This inspiration-tour is a first-time experience that allowed showrunners from all over the world to connect, to meet their counterparts outside the festivals and markets and to give birth to future collaborations,” commented Camille Feret, Head of the Côte d’Azur Film Commission. “I am proud to carry this innovative initiative, to go to the source of creativity, to go beyond the classic fam-trip, to inspire authors to come and shoot on site by guiding projects from the very early stages. It is essential to set up a virtuous circle that creates a professional dynamic around the entire audiovisual sector. Creativity and excellence are also well and truly found on the Côte d'Azur!"

With members including Côte d’Azur-Alpes Maritimes Departmental Council, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nice Côte d’Azur, along with thirty additional cities, the local Film Commission has contributed its global connections to bringing awareness to the rising talents and resources of the French county.

7 showrunners were selected for the three day visit, including Westworld’s Lisa Joy, Amy J Aniobi from Insecure, Matthew Weiner from Sopranos and Mad Men, Bron and Jour Polaire’s Måns Marlind, Deborah Davis from La Favorite and Marie-Antoinette, Audry Fouché from Borgia and Les Revenants and Loosing Alice’s Sigal Avin. Taking part in a “script-room session”, offered to the visitors as a part of their trip, showrunners were able to liaise with a delegation of local professionals from the French audio-visual industry.

Frank Chikli, Président of the Côte D'Azur Film Commission commented: “The Film Commission, whose mission is to promote the Côte d'Azur territory to film productions, promotes the beautiful ecosystem and skills of the Côte D'Azur, home to prestigious international productions of cinema and more than ever, series.”

The event provided the opportunity for international creatives to learn about and support the local industry of Côte d’Azur, all the while spreading their own expertise. With an impactful presence at Cannes and multiple series including Gone for Good and Emily in Paris making use of the stunning landscapes, the region is proving its multidimensional contribution to the audio-visual industry and its promising future.
