Straight 8 shootout is set to make a bang at FOCUS 2022

Posing an irresistible challenge, Straight 8 are giving the most daring filmmakers the opportunity to make a boundary breaking project, all shot on one super 8mm film. With heavy hitters already signed up to take the plunge, and, many more following, are you willing to step up to the plate?

You have just 5 days to conceive and shoot a short film about anything at all! And the really good news is that you don’t need to allow any edit or post-production time. Because the first time you will see your in-camera-edited super 8 film is on the big screen at FOCUS on December 7, with the whole industry watching.

Since announcing the entry opening, the companies lining up to compete so far include Droga 5, Factory Studios, Family Creative, Groundglass, HotHouse Music, Iris Worldwide, Outsider, Screen Cornwall, Squire Studios, and with many more expressing their interest, the time is now to get in on the action and push your creativity to the limit.

Here are some testimonials from those who are taking the creative plunge:

“Having admired straight 8 for many years, HotHouse Music are entering straight 8 shootout as a fun and fundamental part of training new staff in how to efficiently produce films in a competitive environment,” commented Lynden Campbell, managing director at Hothouse Music

Samuel Tawera, midweight art director at Iris said: ‘It’s an amazing challenge that is unique within the creative industry. Even if teams don’t win, they most definitely will have learnt something new’.

"We have a story to tell and a song in our heart," commented Joshua Gibbard, music supervisor and producer at Factory

“I’m doing this to escape my comfort zone, and to show that when trash time-travels, it can become treasure,” stated Maxi Bamber, director at Family Creative
