Emmy-nominated Moominvalley set to return for season four

Gutsy animations announced today the recommissioning of Emmy nominated animated series Moominvalley for a fourth season. Supported by broadcasters Sky (UK) and Yle (Finland), the series will be joined by its new co-production partner Viaplay Group. The boarding of the new partner for the series will allow all four seasons to be aired on the Viaplay streaming platform across multiple territories including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands.

Sold to over 60 countries, including Finland, the UK, Japan and Germany, Moominvalley is an acclaimed animated series, awarded the Audience Episodic Award at the New York International Children’s Film Festival 2022 as well as nominated for the British Animation Awards 2022. Produced by joint Finnish-UK production company Gutsy Animations, Moominvalley is based on the Moomin stories created by Finnish-Swedish author and artist Tove Jansson. The series title is in reference to the idyllic home of the Moomins.

 

Season four will feature 13 episodes of whimsical, childlike adventure, all the while highlighting the importance of looking after the environment and finding more sustainable ways of living. Inspired by one of the most well-known stories form the original books, season four of the beloved series will see the valley threatened by a speeding comet speeding towards the Moomin’s home, and no solutions in sight. Set for release in 2024, the new season will be directed by Nigel Davies, known for his work on Shaun the Sheep as well as previous seasons of Moominvalley.
