Focus Features debuts Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City trailer

Filmmaker Wes Anderson’s trailer for his latest venture Asteroid City has been revealed. Coated in candied pastel tones, the trailer features quirky snapshot of Anderson’s signature symmetrical style. The film consists of  a star studded cast including Hong Chau, Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson. Asteroid City is set for limited theatre release on 16 June and wider release on 23 June.

Expected for a Cannes Film Festival premiere, Asteroid City is the latest project in a long line of credits for Anderson which includes stop animation projects like Fantastic Mr Fox and Isle of Dogs as well as upcoming Roald Dahl adaptation for Netflix The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar set for premiere this year. Set in a 1950’s fictional American desert town, the film unravels a whirlwind of chaos that stems from the innocence of a Junior Stargazer/space Cadet convention. Filmed in Spain in 2021, several sets were based in Chinchón, a small town about 50m outside of Madrid, for the desert landscapes and mock train station construction.

Anderson is joined by frequent collaborator Roman Coppola who has worked with the director on projects such as The French Dispatch and The Darjeeling Limited. In line with his loyalty to a frequently relied upon bunch, Jeremy Dawson and Stephen Rales of Indian Paintbrush join the team as producers with co-production from John Peet and Octavia Peissel and executive production by Christoph Fisser and Henning Molfenter.

Casting will also include Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, Live Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carrel, Matt Dillon, Jaspn Schwartzman, Willem Defoe, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee, Jeff Goldblum and Rita Wilson.
