Lane Street Studios opens in New Zealand

New Zealand has opened the doors to Lane Street Studios, a new purpose built film studio in Wellington. Since finishing construction in January, the 10 acre site has welcomed a host of local and international productions. The site consists  of sound-stages, workshop spaces, as well as costume, make up and design departments, providing closely accessible space for all elements of production.

“We are excited to provide a new studio for large scale productions,” commented chief executive officer Kristy Grant. “Lane Street Studios exists to offer world-class screen facilities that meet the needs of each production that comes through our doors. We tailor our services to ensure every production team have the best possible experience during their time at our facilities.  We look forward to welcoming productions to create dynamic stories for the screen.”

The Miro and Kauri stages total to an impressive 50,309 square feet of space offering state of the art fixtures and equipment for all production needs. Both studios have a power board output capacity ex mains supply of 1000KVA, plus facility to connect a 1000KVA generator to sub boards as required, and are equipped with house lighting, power outlets and compressed air reticulation. There is an air handling system for fresh air and extraction, a grid of catwalks for set and lighting rigs, plus a grid level dimmer room in Kauri Stage with a lift in Miro Stage that Kauri Stage can also access.

“It’s an exciting time to shoot at Lane Street,” commented location manager Mike Munro. “The facilities are brand new, which has provided an extremely comfortable, purpose made environment for our production. There are plenty of stunning natural locations close by and the people of Upper Hutt have been incredibly supportive and enthusiastic.  Upper Hutt City Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council and Screen Wellington bent over backwards to meet the needs of our production and to help facilitate our work. We’ve been very impressed with facilities and staff at Lane Street Studio’s, and look forward to returning there in the near future.”

In addition to the sound-stages, the site is also home to the Tōtara Production Building which boasts a total of 67,800 square feet consisting of production and workshop space, as well as onsite parking which can accommodate up to 230 cars. The building also provides office space and a flexibility for the requirements of any production that occupies the site.

Grant added: “We have consulted closely with industry to ensure the newest offering in Aotearoa New Zealand is fit for purpose and designed to be modern and flexible to best meet production needs.”

Established as a green production facility, the studio is surrounded by a green belt at the foot of Whitemans Valley hills and is only a 5 minute walk from the Upper Hutt city centre. The studios have included green based initiatives such as offering five EV charging stations, waste and rainwater collection systems, and landscaping which makes use of native plants.
