Location Manager Nancy Haecker reports from Thailand for The Location Guide

Nancy Haecker, The Location Managers Guild of America's Vice President and International Committee Chair, and other top Location Managers have been invited to Thailand by the film office in an attempt to boost its industry. Nancy will keep us up-to-date on the trip.

The Thailand Film Office Department of Tourism has launched its pro-active marketing strategy by inviting industry professionals from around the globe to tour Thailand on their first Inbound Roadshow 2012.

The plan is to generate future film and television projects for the Kingdom by exposing us to the variety of location looks Thailand offers.

Those on the tour include Location Manager Ilt Jones (Transformers, Inception and The Dark Knight Rises),  top scout Lori Balton (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lone Ranger and Argo) and, of course, me. We’ll all be getting a better sense of what Thailand has to offer international productions.

With a 12% contribution to Thailand's GDP from international production, Thailand is already a well known filming destination. However, with the increasing competition from other Southeast Asian film markets, Thailand is now taking a more pro-active approach to increase production revenue and maintain their global status as a low cost, high value destination for filming.

The plan is to generate future film and television projects for the Kingdom by exposing us to the variety of location looks Thailand offers and to nurture and grow relationships between Thai and international industry professionals. It also hopes to expose the Thai production community to the varying cultural nuances of international productions, and showcase Thailand's new and high tech production facilities.

We will tour city life in Bangkok then travel north to Chaing Rai and explore rural, agricultural and primitive wilderness regions in the North then travel to the southern regions for beaches and tropical islands.
