British Government announces renewal of UK filming tax relief to 2015

The British Government has announced that location filming tax relief will continue to be available for production in the UK through to the end of 2015. Projects budgeted at more than GBP20 million can get a 20% rebate, while those spending less than GBP20 million can access 25% tax relief.

The last year has seen massive success, both at home and abroad, for a whole host of UK films. I look forward to seeing the UK film industry continue to thrive over the coming years, supported by the Government's film tax relief.

There’s been concern over the past 18 months about whether the UK’s filming incentives would suffer alongside other cutbacks. The abrupt closure of the UK Film Council in mid-2010 caused international controversy, although Creative England and the British Film Commission have since been launched to draw projects to the UK and provide support once they’re here.

Prime Minister David Cameron commented: “I am delighted to announce the extension of film tax relief to the end of 2015, guaranteeing millions of pounds of support for the British film industry.

“The last year has seen massive success, both at home and abroad, for a whole host of UK films. I look forward to seeing the UK film industry continue to thrive over the coming years, supported by the Government's film tax relief.”

This decision will deliver certainty for the UK’s talented filmmakers and will provide the platform for growth, investment and jobs in a growing segment of the economy.
