HBO Asia filming second scripted series Grace on location in Singapore

Cable network HBO Asia is filming horror miniseries Grace on location in Singapore. The production is being co-produced by HBO Asia and Singapore-based production company Infocus Asia, with additional support from the Media Development Authority of Singapore.

Grace is the second scripted miniseries from HBO Asia and will look at the region’s cultural values through the story of a man whose unfaithfulness results in unspeakable horrors for his family.

The cable network previously produced the ten-part miniseries Serangoon Road, which was set in 1960s Singapore as the region began to emerge as an independent republic. Filming for Serangoon Road took place at Singapore’s Infinite Studios and on an extensive ‘Chinatown’ period set that was built on the studio’s facilities on the Indonesian island of Batam.

Singapore has a wide variety of settings and locations cutting across different cultures and historical periods that could also convincingly double for other cities,” Infinite Studios producer Nick North told The Location Guide when Serangoon Road was launched: “As with any project a good Location Manager will be able to help tap this potential.”

Singapore is a sovereign city state off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Malaysia itself now offers a 30% filming incentive and Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios is based in the state of Johor across the water from Singapore.

Pinewood Iskandar recently secured its first major shoot. Marco Polo will be a big-budget miniseries inspired by the life of the eponymous 13th Century traveller and is being produced by The Weinstein Company for online streaming service Netflix.
