Crime miniseries The Killing Pool to film on location in Liverpool

Crime miniseries The Killing Pool is set to film on location in Liverpool in north-west England. The drama was announced at the Dream Factory event as part of the International Festival for Business in Liverpool and adds to a list of the city’s production credits that include Foyle’s War.

Red Union Films, Pinewood Pictures and IM Global will co-produce The Killing Pool and filming will start on location in 2015.

“Red Union has been working on this deal since 2011, so to see it reach fruition is wonderful,” Sampson told the Liverpool Echo: “A major TV series backed by renowned international studios like Pinewood and IM Global is another great result for the Liverpool film and TV industry.

“Coming on the day that the [Liverpool] Mayor unveiled his creative communities scheme, the timing could not be better. We have a terrific pool of talent here with Hurricane Films just completing Terence Davies’ new film Sunset Song and Colin McKeown’s LA Productions consistently producing outstanding drama. For The Killing Pool series to be shot here on the banks of the Mersey would be a dream come true.”

Liverpool is becoming a more popular filming location in England, especially since the launch of the UK’s TV tax credit, which supports high-end TV production. Recent TV dramas shooting in the city have included the 1920s-set Peaky Blinders, in addition to a new series of Foyle’s War, which is set in post-war England and doubled Liverpool for London.

The city is also on Hollywood’s radar, doubling for 1940s New York in the first Captain America movie, and more recently for Moscow in the spy thriller Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
