Quebec Film and Television Council launches website to promote VFX industry

The Quebec Film and Television Council (QFTC) has launched a new website to promote the visual effects industry in the Canadian province. VFX-Montreal.com offers details on 17 separate companies with credits including X-Men: Days of Future Past, Hercules and Iron Man 3.

“In 2013, Quebec companies generated over CAD 96 million in visual effect contracts,” said Hans Fraikin, General Manager and National Film Commissioner for Québec.

“The creation of our new VFX-Montreal platform will contribute to further growth for years to come. As secretariat of the audiovisual cluster, the QFTC is proud to have mobilised the industry around this major project.”

Added Benoit Touchette, General Manager of Framestore: “VFX-Montreal demonstrated the engagement of the QFTC and of the visual effects community in Montreal and in Quebec, as well the spirit of collaboration found within this community.

“Whether you are a movie producer or a 3D graphic designer, this site is the foremost reference for your production and career. It’s also the first time a community of visual effects companies gathers together to create such a website. There’s no equivalent anywhere in the world.”

Montreal is a popular international filming location and recently hosted X-Men: Days of Future Past. The follow-up, X-Men: Apocalypse, will also shoot in the city.

Quebec offers a 25% base filming incentive and also a separate 20% incentive for visual effects work, which makes it a popular North American base for specialist companies. In the past year alone, three major firms have announced new Montreal offices, the most recent being Atomic Fiction in September this year.
