From Dusk Til Dawn second series starts filming Texas with Robert Rodriguez

A second season of From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series, created by Robert Rodriguez, has started filming on location in Austin, Texas. The drama is based on the 1996 vampire movie of the same name that Rodriguez also directed, and which helped launch George Clooney’s movie career.

“It's great to be back for season two with the amazing cast and crew,” said Rodriguez: “We continue to push our story and characters into unexpected directions at a time when El Rey Network has greatly increased its distribution with six of the top eight distributors.

“We are also thrilled to expand our partnership with Miramax, which, based on the successful launch of the first season, has taken on a larger role in production this season and will be the lead studio on any future seasons.”

Texas has been a profile boost over the past year due to the success of Richard Linklater’s locally-filmed Boyhood. From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series is among the highest-profile productions currently filming the in the state.

Still, Texas has only limited appeal as a national and international filming location, partly because its filming incentive has a relatively small annual fund. State lawmakers are in fact currently advocating drastic cuts to the fund for the next legislative year.

Texas shares borders with New Mexico to the west and Louisiana to the east, both of which offer generous filming incentives and world-class studio infrastructure. New Mexico is the top US filming location for desert landscapes, in large part due to the economics.
