Amazon adventure movie Lost City of Z filming in Belfast and Colombia

Amazon adventure movie Lost City of Z has started filming in Belfast and will later shoot on location in Colombia. The Northern Ireland capital offers Titanic Studios, where HBO’s hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones is based.

Lost City of Z is based on a non-fiction book by David Grann, who investigated the case of Percy Fawcett, a British explorer who disappeared in 1925 while searching the Amazon for an ancient lost city.

The film will star British acting talent Charlie Hunnam, Sienna Miller, Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland, and is being produced by Brad Pitt through his production banner Plan B.

“We are delighted to welcome Plan B Entertainment to Northern Ireland to film Lost City of Z,” said Richard Williams, Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Screen.

“This is another strong vote of confidence in our local film industry and further cements Northern Ireland’s reputation as a world-class production location. We wish the entire team all the best for their shoot.”

Northern Ireland has had huge success with Game of Thrones and Northern Ireland Screen recently revealed that the show has spent more than GBP 100 million locally since it started production five years ago.

Gothic horror feature Dracula: Untold doubled Northern Ireland for Eastern Europe last year, but otherwise the region mainly appeals to British productions. The BBC made a deal earlier this year to support Northern Ireland’s production sector more closely and will increase its regional investment in 2016.

Lost City of Z will shift filming locations to Colombia for September and October. The country recently launched a filming incentive programme and hosted true-life drama The 33, telling the story of a group of miners who spent weeks trapped underground in 2010, capturing the attention of the world’s media.
