Hafzoo films ski freeriders in western Austria for Tirol Tourist Board

Hafzoo filmed with ski freeriders in the Austrian ski resort of St Anton for a new campaign promoting the Tirol Tourist Board. The film showcases the region’s snowy landscapes by following a pair of freeriders enjoying the winter environment.

“St Anton and the Arlberg region are a hotspot for the freeride community,” explains Andreas Hafele, producer and director with Hafzoo: “The terrain and the way one can access off-piste ski routes are particularly good.

“Freeriders don't really hike up a mountain. They use ski-lifts and track sideways to access unspoiled slopes.

"The Arlberg region offers plenty of that and Hafzoo made it part of the film to feature ski-lift infrastructure as part of the daily commute of a freeride professional.

“It is a brave move for a tourist board to allow for lift stations and snow blowers to be shown in an ad, but Tirol Advertising are quite visionary and genuine when it comes to that.”

The freezing conditions were one of the principal challenges the production team faced, and specifically how it impacted their equipment.

“At -15 Degrees Celsius [as a] day temperature you work near the limit for any camera equipment,” Hafele adds: “Without a cameraman with alpine experience and the knowledge how to preserve the batteries and how far you can take the equipment, you are lost.

“As part of the Hafzoo team we have our experienced DP Hanno Mackowitz and backup from the mountain rescue unit to help carry luggage and keep us safe.”

Tirol offers year-round snow, with the heaviest snowfall at higher altitudes from about mid-October through to May.
