UK cinema admissions highest in 40 years

The Film Distributors' Association have said that admissions rose 1.1% to 164.2 million in 2008 with box office takings up 3.7% to GBP854.4 million. This has been largely attributed to the success of such films as Mamma Mia and The Dark Knight and other big budget franchises like Indiana Jones and James Bond.

While the recession has seen a drop in film marketing budgets, it doesn't seem to be having an impact on the public's need for escapism. 2009 is also predicted to be a very good year.
