Icelandic military base to be converted into film studios

A group of veteran Icelandic filmmakers have formed a company called Atlantic Studios in order to purchase real estate at a former US military base in Iceland. The company aims to convert this into professional film facilities including sound stages with production support buildings and exterior stages. The Studio is located close to Iceland’s international airport with several flights a day to England, Scandinavia, other European countries and North American Cities. Work at the site is scheduled to commence in the Autumn of 2008, with the facilities set to open in 2009.
