The 82nd Golden Globe Awards took place yesterday celebrating outstanding achievements in film and television from the past year. Top winners from the night included Emilia Pérez, Shōgun and The Brutalist. Hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, the ceremony broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+.
In the final days of 2024, Screen Alliance CEO Neil Hatton was awarded with the prestigious MBE in the King’s New Year Honours List. Announced on 30 December, Hatton has been recognised for his services to visual effects and animation. This honour came as an apt celebration preceding the New Year arrival of the new VFX tax credit championed by Hatton and the UK Screen Alliance members.

After deliberation, the jury members have selected the shortlisted entries for the EUFCN Location Awards 2024. The finalist locations will compete for two distinct awards; The EUFCN Location Awards 2024, selected by the Location Awards Jury, and The EUFCN Audience Location Award 2024, selected by the public through online voting. Voting will close on 31 January 2025 with winners announced at the European Film Market 2025 in Berlin.
The Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) have announced the departure of CEO Lyndsay Duthie. After five years with the organisation, Duthie will take up a new role at the end of January 2025 as Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic Partnerships and Industry Engagement at University for the Creative Arts (UCA). The recruitment process for the new PGGB CEO will commence this week.
The American Film Market settled into its new Las Vegas home for the 2024 edition. From 5-10 November hundreds of exhibitors set up at the Palms Casino Resort for 6 days of conferences, panels, as well as the chance to connect with decision makers in the independent film community. Amongst the activity of film acquisition, development and networking, notable projects at the forefront included Barry Levinson’s Assassination, Jim Jarmusch’s Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, Brian Cox’s Glenrotha, and many more.
As the spooky Halloween weekend came to a close, brands began to unveil their much anticipated Christmas commercials. Just in time for Mariah Carey’s annual defrosting, familiar characters such as TK Maxx’s farm yard fashionistas and Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot returned to our homes for the holidays.
If you were not entertained for the first flick, Paul Mescal steps into the Colosseum for the upcoming Gladiator 2. Marking director Ridley Scott’s return to the franchise, the sequel sees Mescal play Lucius, the son of Maximus, who works his way up to gladiator to avenge his family and seek revenge against the Romans. The cast also includes Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Pedro Pascal. Gladiator 2 will be released in UK theatres on 15 November.
