MIPTV confirms move to London from 2025

After months of speculation, Cannes based market MIPTV have confirmed their presence in London starting from 2025. Running alongside their London screening in February, the event will be held at the Savoy Hotel in the city as well as screening venue IET London, Savoy Place. Featuring screenings, networking events, meetings and a conference programme, the event will build on the increasing screen sector based Q1 activity.

The British Arrows have announced the winners of their 48th gala. Celebrating the greatest talents in moving image advertising, the ceremony saw more than 240 entrants awarded bronze, silver and gold trophies. Amongst the awardees, APA chief executive Steve Davies took home the coveted Fellowship Award for his 25 years of leadership. The night of celebration was hosted by television personality Rylan and held at Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Oscar nominee and Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel makes his directing debut with action thriller Monkey Man. Revealing the trailer at SXSW 2024, the feature follows a man’s quest for vengeance after the murder of his mother and the systemic brutality against the poor and powerless. Jordan Peele joins Patel as producer for the upcoming internationally shot feature.

Last night, the awards season came to a close with the 2024 edition of the Academy Awards.  Bringing together some of the biggest blockbusters of the past year, the ceremony saw Christopher Nolan’s  Oppenheimer come out on top with seven Oscar wins including Best Actor and Best Cinematography and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things following close behind with four.

The Global Entertainment Awards (formerly known as World Trailer Awards) took place this past weekend in Wyndham Grand Algarve, Portugal. Celebrating the people behind the promos, trailers and marketing for movies, games and series of the last year, the ceremony announced their top performers as well as celebrating emerging talent from Egypt, Germany, New Zealand, Uganda and the UK. This year’s ceremony was hosted by actress-writer-director Sónia Balacó and Global Entertainment Awards Director Alejandro Barrios.

Today marks the end of the 74th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival. The festival concluded with the Golden Bear win for Dahomey from director Mati Diop, accounting for the second ever African receipt of the grand prize. This year’s jury was headed by Black Panther actress Lupita Nyong’o who announced the grand prize winner on Saturday 24 February.

Inis Mór, the largest of Ireland’s Aran Islands, has won the EUFCN Location Award for the seventh edition. This award honours the location for its use in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The award was accepted by Screen Ireland’s Michael Byrne on Sunday 18 February at the EUFCN Location Award Ceremony during the 2024 European Film Market in Berlin.

CineRegio launches Manifesto for Sustainable Filming at Berlin International Film Festival

CineRegio, a network of regional film funds in Europe, launches today their Manifesto for Sustainable Film, as well as a commitment to social impact at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival. As of today, 24 members of CineRegio have signed the manifesto, including Film London and Screen Brussels Fund. In addition to social impact and mental health,the new manifesto will consider environmental impact, building on the network’s Green manifesto which has been signed by 45 members.
