Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland welcomes 8% boost to film and television tax incentive

The Irish government and minister of finance Jack Chambers T.D announced today in the Budget 2025 an 8% uplift for the local film and television incentive. This uplift will apply to feature film productions with a maximum global budget of EUR 20 million (GBP 16.7 million) and joins the additional introduction of a 20% tax incentive for unscripted production.

The Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) have announced the six winners for their biennial awards on 14 September. The teams of Supacell and Wonka were amongst the winners of the night, as well as David Heyman who took home The PGGB Contribution to the Industry Award 2024.  The evening celebrating the organisation’s members and their achievements in the UK film and HETV industry, was hosted by presenter and actor Patrick Kielty at The Grove Hotel in Hertfordhshire.

Head of physical production at Amazon Glenn Gainor has been honoured by the Producers Without Borders (PWB) network this past weekend alongside producers Sep Riahi and Andrea Borella. Now in its second year, the awards aim to celebrate doers of the industry who are not typically awarded for their contributions. This year’s ceremony took place at a PWB brunch held during the 2024 Venice Film Festival.

The 2024 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) will open with Netflix title Uprising, a Korean feature set against the backdrop of war and following the journey through the lives of two childhood friends turned foes. This opening night premiere joins a longlist of Netflix productions include in the programme, as the streamer establishes a key partnership with the film festival taking place from 2-11 October.

This year’s London Film Festival will open with Steve McQueen’s Blitz and close with the European premiere of Morgan Neville’s Pharrell Lego documentary Piece by Piece. The American Express Gala will also host the European premiere of R.J. Cutler and David Furnish’s Elton John: Never Too Late. A total of 253 titles from 79 countries and of 63 languages will be screened at the festival this year.

The winners have been announced for this year’s Gerety Awards with seven grand prix recipients coming out on top. The judging panel of 200 from 47 countries awarded 24 Gold, 94 Silver and 71 Bronze, with 198 entries on the shortlist. The most awarded countries in this edition were Germany, USA, UK and France, with Rights against the Right - The first trademark that stops trading Nazi merch as the most awarded campaign overall. Other top awarded brands include WWF, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, Mc Donald’s, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Wisp x Abortion Freedom Fund.

The 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will welcome Raj Kapoor’s 4k restored Award premiere as well as honour  Angelina Jolie with the esteemed Tribute Award. Presented by Rogers, the festival will showcase Canadian and international cinema projects from 5 -15 September, as well as special events and talks with some of the industry’s biggest names.
