Stop motion is the medium that transcends the tests of time, and Locarno Film Festival are recognising that with their honoring of Claude Barras. The master animator and creator of My Life as a Zucchini (Ma vie de Courgette) will receive the Locarno Kida Award la Mobilaire at Locarno 77 today along with a screening of his latest film Sauvages.
Horizon: An American Saga- Chapter Two is set to premiere out of competition at the 81st Venice Festival on 7 September. The Kevin Costner starrer and directed feature also stars Sienna Miller, Jena Malone and Danny Huston. Chapter One will also screen out of competition following its premiere in Cannes earlier this year. The 2024 Venice Film Festival will take place from 28 August until 7 September.
Yorkshire is set to welcome a slate of new feature and television projects thanks to investment from the county’s Content Fund. These projects join BBC series Virdee which concluded production in Bradford. The upcoming projects shot across a number of Yorkshire locations, with involvement from BAFTA and Academy Award recognised talents.
The Location Managers Guild International (LMGI) Awards announced today that location manager Bill Bowling is set to receive the Trailblazer Award at the 11th annual ceremony on 24 August 2024. Involved with projects such as Jupiter Ascending and Cloud Atlas, Bowling’s receipt of the award celebrates over five decades of work in the production industry. The awards ceremony will take place at The Wallis Annenberg Centre for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California.
From 25-28 August, the Association of Film Commissioners International will host their annual AFCI Week in Los Angeles. For the 2024 edition, AFCI will be expanding industry access to the global film commissioner conference with attendees including studio executives, independent producers, location managers and government policymakers. Esteemed filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Locarno Film Festival. The five-time Academy Award-winner will be honoured on Sunday 11 August in Piazza Grande. Cuarón will also sit on a panel on the same day in conversation at Forum @Spazio Cinema. The Locarno Film Festival will take place from 7 to 17 August 2024.
From 10-11 July, the UK Creative Festival will take place at Dreamland in Margate. The festival will host the UK’s only Creative Careers Fair, The Best of British Creativity exhibition, and end with the 79th Creative Circle Awards. Welcoming creatives at every level, the festival will partner with Global, BA Diversity Media, Sparks, and many more.
The nominees for the 11th annual LMGI Awards have been announced. Across seven categories, projects from Netflix, A24, HBO Max, Apple TV+ and more have been honoured including projects such as Baby Reindeer, Palm Royale, and Killers of the Flower Moon. The ceremony was will take place at The Wallis Annenburg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California on 24 August 2024.
