The Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) have announced the departure of CEO Lyndsay Duthie. After five years with the organisation, Duthie will take up a new role at the end of January 2025 as Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic Partnerships and Industry Engagement at University for the Creative Arts (UCA). The recruitment process for the new PGGB CEO will commence this week.

The American Film Market settled into its new Las Vegas home for the 2024 edition. From 5-10 November hundreds of exhibitors set up at the Palms Casino Resort for 6 days of conferences, panels, as well as the chance to connect with decision makers in the independent film community. Amongst the activity of film acquisition, development and networking, notable projects at the forefront included Barry Levinson’s Assassination, Jim Jarmusch’s Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, Brian Cox’s Glenrotha, and many more.

If you were not entertained for the first flick, Paul Mescal steps into the Colosseum for the upcoming Gladiator 2. Marking director Ridley Scott’s return to the franchise, the sequel sees Mescal play Lucius, the son of Maximus, who works his way up to gladiator to avenge his family and seek revenge against the Romans. The cast also includes Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Pedro Pascal. Gladiator 2 will be released in UK theatres on 15 November.

Today marks the start of CICLOPE Festival 2024. The festival centred around craft across commercial, music videos and short films, will take place from 8-10 October in Berlin. This year’s festival will welcome a slate of esteemed speakers including Stink president Daniel Bergman, Barking Owl’s managing director Carol Dunn, writer, actor, producer and director Sharon Horgan, and many more. The three day event will conclude with the announcement of the CICLOPE Awards on 10 October.

Last week the fourth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria (I&PI) took place in Madrid. The event, sponsored by Madrid Film Office, the audiovisual office of the Madrid City Council, once again turned the city into the global epicentre of Spanish and Portuguese speaking film and audiovisual production. More than 980 companies and 2,000 professionals from nearly 50 Ibero-American countries have met to promote synergies between different industries and stimulate the development of new projects and co-productions of series and films.
