Last week the fourth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria (I&PI) took place in Madrid. The event, sponsored by Madrid Film Office, the audiovisual office of the Madrid City Council, once again turned the city into the global epicentre of Spanish and Portuguese speaking film and audiovisual production. More than 980 companies and 2,000 professionals from nearly 50 Ibero-American countries have met to promote synergies between different industries and stimulate the development of new projects and co-productions of series and films.

Six winners have been announced for The Hot House 2024 writers’ lab through Climate Spring. The winning writers will have their original screenplays developed as well as receive GBP 1,000 each from Climate Spring and other high level editorial and industry support. The lab, in partnership with Film London and BBC Writers, will conclude with an industry showcase where the projects will be up for production deals and further development funding in collaboration with Climate Spring’s production company partners.

After a week of judging at Kinsale last week by 38 judges, sitting across 7 different panels for advertising, digital, social and design, the Shark Awards have announced their shortlist for 2024. Creative projects by some of the world’s biggest agencies fall into 100 shortlisted positions. Winners will be revealed on 14 October and presented at the winners party in London on 24 October.

The Irish government and minister of finance Jack Chambers T.D announced today in the Budget 2025 an 8% uplift for the local film and television incentive. This uplift will apply to feature film productions with a maximum global budget of EUR 20 million (GBP 16.7 million) and joins the additional introduction of a 20% tax incentive for unscripted production.

The Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) have announced the six winners for their biennial awards on 14 September. The teams of Supacell and Wonka were amongst the winners of the night, as well as David Heyman who took home The PGGB Contribution to the Industry Award 2024.  The evening celebrating the organisation’s members and their achievements in the UK film and HETV industry, was hosted by presenter and actor Patrick Kielty at The Grove Hotel in Hertfordhshire.

Head of physical production at Amazon Glenn Gainor has been honoured by the Producers Without Borders (PWB) network this past weekend alongside producers Sep Riahi and Andrea Borella. Now in its second year, the awards aim to celebrate doers of the industry who are not typically awarded for their contributions. This year’s ceremony took place at a PWB brunch held during the 2024 Venice Film Festival.

The 2024 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) will open with Netflix title Uprising, a Korean feature set against the backdrop of war and following the journey through the lives of two childhood friends turned foes. This opening night premiere joins a longlist of Netflix productions include in the programme, as the streamer establishes a key partnership with the film festival taking place from 2-11 October.
