The Interpublic Group announced yesterday that Danny Robinson will take on the role of CEO at The Martin Agency. Robinson has worked for the agency for the past two decades, most recently serving as the agency’s chief creative officer. He will be taking over from Kristen Cavallo who was named Global CEO of MullenLowe Group 14 months ago.

Bollywood film Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone became the highest grossing film this weekend on the global box office, generating revenues of USD 25.1 million. The Viacom18 and Marflix actioner is helmed by Pathaan director Siddharth Anand. Unfolding the experiences of India’s Airforce, the aerial action flick was shot in Italy and Indian cities Assam, Mumbai, Kashmir and Hyderabad.

French global investment management firm AXA Investment Managers (IM) have acquired North West London’s BBC Elstree Centre. This purchase marks the first investment by AXA IM into the UK’s TV and film studio market. As part of the deal AXA IM will lease part of the studios to BBC for 25 years. Oxygen Studios, who advised on the acquisition, will also act as developing and operating partner in the new ownership.

As part of a new long term deal that brings weekly live sports entertainment to Netflix, WWE Raw will be coming to the streaming platform at the beginning of 2025. The USD 5 billion deal marks the first time WWE Raw will be away from linear television in 31 years. The franchise will be brought to Netflix in the U.S, Canada, the U.K and Latin America.

Jay Hunt has been appointed chair of the British Film Institute (BFI) by the secretary of state. The Apple TV+ creative director for Europe, and former chief creative officer of Channel 4,  has been a governor of the BFI since 2020. The new chair will commence her four year term starting from 12 February 2024.

Rail company LNER have started the year with the help of their new red headed mascot Eleanor for their Freedom All the Way campaign. As part of their partnership with M&C Saatchi London, the creative campaign sees the dancing puppet showing travellers all that can be done during a LNER journey, set to the tune of Fatboy Sim’s Weapon of Choice.

Bristol City Council’s Film Services to deliver new skills training programme

Plans have been announced to launch a new skills training programme later this month for creatives looking to break in behind-the-camera roles in the West of England. This follows Bristol City Council’s Film Services securing almost £300,000 (£299,818) from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, led by Metro Mayor Dan Norris. The programme is set to be delivered by The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol UNESCO City of Film and Bristol Film Office.
