Plans have been announced to launch a new skills training programme later this month for creatives looking to break in behind-the-camera roles in the West of England. This follows Bristol City Council’s Film Services securing almost £300,000 (£299,818) from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, led by Metro Mayor Dan Norris. The programme is set to be delivered by The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol UNESCO City of Film and Bristol Film Office.

Following an ongoing demand for a salary increase, French film and television industry professionals will commence their strike on Tuesday 19 December. Described as a national day of multifaceted mobilisations, local labour union SPIAC-CGT announced the gathering set to take place tomorrow in front of the Ministry of Culture in Paris.

Liverpool Film Office announced yesterday the start of preparation to transform the city’s former  Little woods building into a film and TV campus. Expected to run until next summer, the construction will start with the development of two new 20,000 sq ft studios to welcome big budget productions. Positioning the city as the ‘Hollywood of the North’, the new facility will cater to both professional visitors and the surrounding community alike.

Madrid Film Office, the audiovisual office of Madrid City Council, was present last week at Ventana Sur (Buenos Aires), the most important market for audiovisual content in Latin America. With the aim of promoting relations between Madrid and the Latin American audiovisual industries, two round tables have been organized to highlight the main programs that have been launched in recent years. These have the objective of stimulating media projects in the city and the opportunities that Madrid offers for international co-productions, taking as a case study the Spanish-Argentine co-production Adiós Madrid, by Diego Corsini.

The European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN) has appointed Venia Vergou as their new manager. The former director of the Hellenic Film Commission at the Greek Film Centre will take over from former EUFCN manager Angelica Cantisani, and step into the role from 2 January 2024.
