The Saudi Film Commission has unveiled its new incentive programme: ‘Film Saudi.’ This scheme offers cash rebates worth up to 40%. Qualifiers for the new incentives include: featuring the Kingdom’s culture, history and people; showcasing the diverse selection of landscapes in Saudi Arabia; or recruiting Saudi crew and talent above and below the line. Incoming film producers who want to bring their next shoot to the Kingdom – whether partially or fully – are invited to apply.

The City of Buenos Aires is offering a 20% cash rebate scheme for international shoots. The incentive is available for production expenditure in the country’s capital city. This scheme is capped at USD600,000 per title, and requires a minimum spend of USD680,000 as well as at least four days shooting in Buenos Aires. It is predicted that the incentives will support around 8,000 jobs across the audiovisual, gastronomic and hospitality industries.

India has unveiled a new incentive scheme for international productions. Up to 30% of qualifying expenditure (capped at USD260,000) can be reimbursed by the federal government. A 5% boost (capped at USD65,000) will be granted if 15% or more of a production’s workforce are from India. Anurag Thakur – the country’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting (I&B) – revealed the news at Cannes Film Festival’s newly-inaugurated Indian Pavilion.

Spcine – São Paulo’s state-owned film and audiovisual company – has unveiled the second edition of its cash rebate programme. The latest instalment offers a 30% cash rebate for filmmakers working in São Paulo. A fund worth USD8 million will support national and international productions who choose to shoot in the city, offering four times the amount of 2021's production funding. This pioneering initiative is a joint venture between the City and State Governments.

The Film in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI) has been increased. The country’s core 30% incentive can be boosted by an additional 5% cash rebate if projects pass a cultural test. A minimum of MYR5 million (around EUR1.086 million) must be spent on production work, or production and post-production work combined, in order to receive the rebate. Qualifying expenditure includes local and foreign equipment hires as well as transport and hotel costs in Malaysia.

The Serbian Government's Ministry of Culture has increased the budget allocated to its cash rebate programme to EUR14.5 million. Preliminary reports on the Serbia Film Incentive programme - including its overall industry performance in the pandemic years - indicate that the country is one of the fastest-growing film production destinations in Eastern Europe. It is predicated the value of productions coming into Serbia in 2022 will reach EUR50 million as a result of the scheme.

The California Film Commission has announced its latest round of tax credits for film productions. Netflix was awarded USD60.3 million in state credits, dwarfing Disney (USD27.2 million), Warner Bros. (USD16.2 million) and Amazon (USD16 million). Netflix received the highest total of credits in the last round, taking USD43.3 million in August 2021. In the latest round, Netflix was granted credits for four major projects: Atlas, Beverly Hills Cop 4, Family Leave and Unfrosted.
