Five up and coming screen practitioners have been chosen to receive the benefits of the Screen Queensland Post, Digital and Visual Effcets (PDV) professional development programme. This programme, which allows participants to receive training and mentorship, is in partnership with the state screen agency and five of Queensland’s leading post production house. Screen Queensland will contribute AUD 50,000 per placement for the year long positions.

On Monday 10 January, Californian Governor Gavin Newsom announced a new state budget that will see the Film and TV Tax Credit programme extended for another five years, as well as making credits refundable for the first time since its 2009 launch. This new programme is an active stance against maintaining California’s status as the world’s media production capital, and preventing anymore “runaway productions”.

The Arizona government has launched the Arizona Motion Picture Production Programme. It is the state’s largest annual film and television tax incentive to date. The legislature was passed in June 2022, but Governor Doug Ducey allowed the bill to become law, without signing it, on 6 July. The initiative is set to run until 2043.

RioFilme, a government agency affiliated with Rio de Janeiro’s city hall, launched their new cash rebate on 7 July 2022. With a total investment of BRL15 million, the incentive will account for an up to 35% rebate. The focus is on attracting investments from international territories and other Brazilian states to increase resources in the Rio de Janeiro audio-visual sector and promote the city’s landscape. Applications for the incentive will continue until all funding has been distributed.

The Austrian government announced a new filming incentive on 7 July 2022. Setting Austria at a new position of attractiveness, the new incentive will offer an up to 35 percent non-repayable grant, of which 5 percent will be applied to national sustainability efforts. The maximum amount of subsidy will be EUR 5 million for film projects and EUR 7.5 million for television series. This will be available to both local and international production teams from 1 January 2023.
