This Friday 12 April, Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black will make its premiere. Capturing the short lived career of the jazz singer, the film stars Marisa Abela as Winehouse. Capturing key London based settings that contributed to the life of the singer, filming took place on location at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, outside Winehouse’s first flat in Camden Town and at Primrose Hill.
Knorr’s Super Cube campaign is allowing food consumers to understand their taste palettes a bit more. Developed by Weber Shandwick in Germany, Sweden and the UK, the campaign stars a group of labelled “picky eaters” with a particular sensitivity to bitter flavours. The potential new product encourages people in Sweden to get tested for the trait that causes this, and promotes how the Super Cube can remedy it.
Crime drama ERIC is set for release on Netflix on 30 May. The Benedict Cumberbatch, Gaby Hoffman and McKinley Belcher III starrer is set in 1980’s New York, backdropping the emotional narrative of a father who faces the turmoil of when his nine year old son disappears. Capturing the authenticity of the state, filming took place in New York, as well as travelling to Budapest.
Actors Robert De Niro and Asa Butterfield star in the British Arrows winning campaign for Uber titled Best Friends. The brand made for people who eat and go places brings together the unlikely pairing and takes them on a journey of friendship building. The project from advertising agency Mother and production company O positive is directed by David Shane.
This year The Walking Dead franchise returned to screens. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which will see its season finale this weekend on 31 March, explores the love story between beloved characters Rick and Michonne, played by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, changed by the apocalyptic world around them. Production set up in New Jersey, with locations including East Rutherford and East Newark.
Apple Studios Palm Royale made its much anticipated debut on 20 March. Available for streaming on Apple TV+, the series follows Maxine Simmons as she attempts to break into Palm Beach high society. Loosely based on the Juliet McDaniel novel Mr and Mrs American Pie, the series is written, executive produced and show-run by Abe Sylvia.
Whist the web slinging superhero has no confirmed date for his return to screen, the franchises comic book counterparts are taking over in the meantime. With Madame Web’s release at the beginning of the year, Kraven The Hunter set for a summer splash and Venom: The Last Dance bringing the third installation of the symbiote anti-hero’s story, the Sony spinoffs are taking to centre stage.
Oscar nominee and Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel makes his directing debut with action thriller Monkey Man. Revealing the trailer at SXSW 2024, the feature follows a man’s quest for vengeance after the murder of his mother and the systemic brutality against the poor and powerless. Jordan Peele joins Patel as producer for the upcoming internationally shot feature.
