Film Otago Southland supports screen production in the bottom half of New Zealand’s South Island, in collaboration with the Queenstown and Dunedin council film offices. Our region is home to cinematic locations, world-class crew and equipment, and film-friendly communities. Production centres in Queenstown and Dunedin are complemented by diverse landscapes in close proximity – world-famous skifields, national parks, epic fiords, lush forest, Gold Rush towns, sweeping plains, heritage and urban architecture, rugged coast and more.

We’re a film production hub in what seems like a remote part of the world, offering cutting-edge capability, accessibility and ease of doing business alongside epic locations.

The proof is in the pudding - we've been making film and television productions here for over thirty years. Recent features, including THE POWER OF THE DOG, MULAN, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT, A WRINKLE IN TIME, and ALIEN - COVENANT, continue to build on the legacy of the legendary HOBBIT and LORD OF THE RINGS trilogies. TV series like SWEET TOOTH, THE LETTER FOR THE KING, ONE LANE BRIDGE, UNDER THE VINES and TOP OF THE LAKE have brought our region to small screens around the world. Eligible productions that film in Otago and Southland have access to the New Zealand Screen Production Grant administered by the NZ Film Commission - 20% for qualifying production expenditure.
