Indian River County
Visit Indian River County is the official travel and film resource for Indian River County, Florida. Situated along Florida’s Treasure Coast on the Atlantic Ocean, the communities of Vero Beach, Sebastian, and Fellsmere are the geographical starting point for the Florida tropics. The destination resides at the intersection of green and glamorous. Famous shipwrecks occurred off the coast of Vero Beach centuries ago. Their submerged remains are still there today. Treasure hunters have salvaged millions in gold and artefacts from those wrecks, on view at local museums, and some of which is for sale. But treasure hunting here is not just for well-funded professional salvagers. On Sea Grape Trail Beach, a wreck is so close to shore that after storms strollers find silver coins washed up. Our natural resources have been so carefully protected that our extensive park system and special ecological wonder astounds. Kayaking and canoeing through protected preserves offer a uniquely serene experience. Start your exploration at Indian River Lagoon one of America’s most bio-diverse estuaries. Enjoy up-close views of over 10,000 species of wildlife and plants. The lagoon also holds a rare treasure, the Night-blooming Cereus. This species of the flower is not only strikingly beautiful but blooms only once a year, for a single night. Also be sure to check out the country’s first national wildlife refuge established by President Theodore Roosevelt: Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. Bring your binoculars to spy 30 species of bird calling this home.
