Spotlight on FOCUS exhibitor Dynamic

FOCUS talks to Tony Scott, MD of logistics provider Dynamic

Tony_11_sqWhat brings you and Dynamic back to FOCUS again this year?

Well we exhibited at Focus last year and we made some great new contacts leading to several mutually successful long-term business relationships.

This is a brilliant event to meet plenty of great likeminded people who could benefit from our expertise all in the one place; not just UK based film ‘movers and shakers’ but also overseas producers looking to film in the UK.

What are you hoping to get out of the event and what will you be promoting at FOCUS 2018?

van-transport-1Hopefully more of the same!! We want to build more relationships with important new stakeholders be it new customers or suppliers, as it’s always nice to make new strategic alliances! And of course, meeting up with some of our long-term friends and customers who visit the show.

As the UK’s No.1 logistics provider to the film and TV industry for the past 30 years we will be promoting our Same Day ATA Carnet Service along with our unrivalled specialist film logistics services and expertise.

Please tell us briefly about Dynamic and the services you provide the screen production industries?

What productions have recently been using your services?

sea-freight-portSome recent examples of productions that have used our services across film, TV and commercials etc include the following:

Film
Terminator, Maleficent, Transformers, Aladdin, Gemini Man, Johnny English, Dumbo to mention a few.

TV
Game of Thrones, The Durrells, Good Karma Hospital, The Night Manager, Peaky Blinders.

Commercials
Asda, TK Maxx, M&S, Nike, Ikea and Sony PlayStation

What are the three most important things that production professionals should know when it comes to thinking about shipping for a production anywhere?

When filming overseas, numbers 1 ,2 and 3 of the important things should know are meeting and engaging with your logistics partners as soon as you know your overseas location. Freight is often forgotten about and your freight forwarded can help in so many ways.

freight-charter-2This early communication allows Dynamic to discuss the methods and schedules both realistic and unrealistic! Highlighting areas of concern in advance which enables costs to be kept to a minimum and not to mention lower stress levels!

Potential areas of concerns can include Lithium Batteries / Dangerous goods, weapons and explosive which normally are covered by various export licence requirements.

What is the most extraordinary shipping request Dynamic has ever had from a production?

Whilst virtually every film comes with extraordinary shipping requests, to name a few recent highlights we have had requests for taxidermy Bison to the USA, a triple decker bus to Florida and even flying live wolves around the world.

Tony Scott

Tony was born in Surrey, and is married with three children. He began his career with ten years working for the Samuelson film Services group of companies which was a great learning place.

mining-freight-2However, he soon decided he wanted to oversee his own destiny and saw an opportunity to move film logistics onto a different level therefore Dynamic International was formed in 1988 with two colleagues. First major production was Traffic shot in Pakistan, with Tony being on site to oversee the get in and then travelling back again for the wrap.

Now a very ‘hands on’ MD of Dynamic with 30 years’ experience in handling major film productions worldwide. During this time, he has made some fantastic contacts across all the well know filming destinations around the world. Still getting that buzz he intends to be involved in the planning of all the major productions Dynamic handle for a long time to come!
