What are you hoping to get out of the event and what in particular will you be promoting at FOCUS 2018?
We hope this event bring even more production to Malaysia for shooting. Our focus is to promote our Cash rebate Incentives ” Film In Malaysia Incentives (FIMI)”.
Please tell us briefly what Malaysia has to offer as a filming destination?
The Malaysia Government introduced the “Film In Malaysia Incentive” (FIMI), a 30% cash rebate on all qualifying Malaysian Production Expenditure (QMPE), to provide an additional financial incentive for creative content development specifically for film, television and other screen production. Malaysia is home to some of the worlds most pristine and iconic landscapes. Combine that with a thriving domestic film industry and the film incentive that we provide make Malaysia known in outside for shooting destination. Besides that also Malaysia provides the most stunning locations in the world such as breath taking beaches, cityscapes, highways, green pastures, marine life, and tropical rain-forest such as Sabah and Sarawak.
Please tell us about FIMI the ‘Film in Malaysia Incentive’ that has proved a great success in attracting foreign producers to come and film in Malaysia.
FIMI began in 2013. From 2013 until July 2018 we have had 51 projects from all over the world come to Malaysia for shooting.
What foreign productions have filmed in Malaysia in the past few years?
TV Series Marco Polo Season 1 and 2, Indian Summer S1 and S2 Feature Films Crazy Rich Asian, Black Hat, Bollywood movie Roy, and animations Kuku Harajuku and Supa Strikes
