Channel 4 and Amazon Studios joined forces to produce The Industry Access Survey 2022 titled Access into Action. With a range of figures and unexpected discoveries, the survey draws attention to the sectors of the television industry that are falling short in ensuring accessibility for Disabled and neuro divergent communities. From the downfalls and promising results, the survey has presented concise next steps that productions can instate over the next 6 months to evoke change in their production practices. Moderator and Chanel 4 sports presenter Jordan Jarret-Bryan was joined by a panel consisting of writer Jack Thorne, tv producer Bryony Arnold, head of UK originals at Amazon Dan Grabiner, and  producer Clare Brown.

European feature films in 2020 produce average budget of EUR 2.06million

The European Audiovisual Observatory released they’re report on the financing of European theatrical fiction films, revealing that in 2020, the industry achieved an average budget of EUR 2.06 million. Direct funding came out on top as the largest financing source contributing 26% of the total financing, with producer investments and broadcaster investments following closely behind both with 18%.

Recent Media Partners Asia (MPA) report cites the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region as the largest generator of online-video activity. Focus on Ad-based and Subscription-based video-on-demand shows industry growth in China, India, Australasia, Southeast Asia, South Korea, and Japan. Bytedance, YouTube Tencent Video, Netflix and iQIYI are ranked as top performers.

BFI reports GBP5.64 billion record spend on UK film and high-end television for 2021

The combined spend by film and high-end television production has reached record levels. According to the BFI, the industry contributed GBP5.64 billion to the national economy during 2021. This total spend is the highest ever reported, reaching GBP1.27 billion more than the pre-pandemic year 2019. April to June was the largest three-month period on record, totalling GBP2.29 million.

New industry action to tackle bullying, harassment and racism in the workplace provides resources to employees, freelancers and employers. For employers the BFI and BAFTA provide a new Action List for the film and television industry. The Film and TV Charity have also launched a suite of bullying support services for immediate support to employees and freelancers. Further steps such as the BFI hiring the first Production Inclusion Manager to advise productions are also underway.
