The Obscure Life of the Duke of Corsica winds up filming in Malta
Malta Film Commission has unveiled plans for new legislation that will apply significant changes to the local production industry. One of the bill’s most notable aspects, the introduction of a skill-based film register, will require local servicing companies to publically assess their skill level.
Mick Jackson’s cinematic depiction of the historic Irving v Penguin Book Ltd trial was partially filmed in the same offices at Summit House, London where the Mishcon de Reya law firm was based.
A remake of the classic 1973 drama Papillon starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, has wrapped filming on location in Malta. The new adaptation will star Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) alongside Rami Malek (Mr Robot), taking over the roles of McQueen and Hoffman respectively.
Malta’s Tourism Minister, Zammit Lewis has announced a brand new film incentive programme for regional productions which will provide tax credits of up to 150% of an eligible spend. The incentive has been designed to stimulate the local film industry in the wake of immense interest from international productions such as Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender.
Film production in the UK is booming after having taken in over GBP1 billion for two consecutive years, with television productions attracting major investors from around the world. This news can largely be accredited to the success of both the UK Film and High-end TV tax relief systems.
