2025 EE BAFTA nominations announced

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominations for its 2025 Film Awards, showcasing a wide array of talent and storytelling that has left a significant mark on the cinematic world over the past year. This year’s nominations include super star flicks of the past year including Emilia Pérez, Wicked, Blitz, Gladiator II and many more. Amongst the nominees, are FOCUS 2024 speakers Robin Carolan for Best Original Score in Nosferatu, Valerie Déloof, Victor Fleurant, Victor Praud, Stéphane Thiébaut, and Emanuelle Villard for sound in The Substance, as well as Peter Straughan for Best Original Screenplay, Nick Emerson in editing ,and Nina Gold and Martin Ware for casting for Conclave.

Willy Wonka returns in new whimsical trailer

Two years ago a top hatted Timothee Chalamet was snapshotted shooting in Dorset for the upcoming Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory reiteration. This week the Dune actor traded in the dust covered cloaks for the signature long red one in the new Wonka trailer. Taking on the role once held by Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder, Chalamet brings an optimistic interpretation of the character promising a story full of whimsy. The film is set for release on 15 December 2023.

British based productions get recognition at the 76th Golden Globes

The UK were strongly represented at this year’s Golden Globe Awards, which are often taken as early indicators of the upcoming Academy Award winners. Not only were British stars Olivia Coleman and Richard Madden in receipt of globes, but UK based productions were placed firmly in the spotlight.

The Downton Abbey movie wrapped filming after a fifty-day shoot on the 30th November. The Carnival Films and NBCUniversal production filmed around the UK in locations familiar to fans to the hit TV series.

A Very English Scandal transformed London and Hertford for 1970s drama

The BBC’s latest high-budget miniseries, A Very English Scandal, transformed several locations throughout London to match its 1960/70s setting. The production travelled to backdrops including the Albert Embankment in Lambeth, where Jeremy Thorpe (Hugh Grant) and Norman Scott (Ben Whishaw) share a romantic moment.

London’s Primrose Hill saw lengthier shoot for Paddington 2

During production on Paddington 2, the film spent more than twice as much time shooting at Paddington’s home in Primrose Hill than its predecessor. Located in Chalcot Crescent, the site had become such an iconic location that the sequel’s script called for it to be featured more frequently.

Love Actually sequel begins on location shoot in London

Filming has begun on a short sequel to Richard Curtis’s 2003 ensemble comedy, Love Actually. The first day of principal photography took place along London’s South Bank yesterday, as the project returned to an iconic location that was featured in the original film.
