Apple TV premieres star studded comedy Palm Royale

Apple Studios Palm Royale made its much anticipated debut on 20 March. Available for streaming on Apple TV+, the series follows Maxine Simmons as she attempts to break into Palm Beach high society. Loosely based on the Juliet McDaniel novel Mr and Mrs American Pie, the series is written, executive produced and show-run by Abe Sylvia.

The Global Entertainment Awards (formerly known as World Trailer Awards) took place this past weekend in Wyndham Grand Algarve, Portugal. Celebrating the people behind the promos, trailers and marketing for movies, games and series of the last year, the ceremony announced their top performers as well as celebrating emerging talent from Egypt, Germany, New Zealand, Uganda and the UK. This year’s ceremony was hosted by actress-writer-director Sónia Balacó and Global Entertainment Awards Director Alejandro Barrios.

The Road Trip, based on the best-selling book by Beth O’Leary, is coming to Paramount+. Directed by China Moo-Young, the series follows the success of O’Leary’s adaptation of The Flatshare. Written and executive produced by Ryan O’Sullivan and Matilda Wnek, both known for their work on Vigil 2, The Road Trip is set for filming in Bristol and Grand Canaria,  for the border crossing adventure. Produced by 42, the series will star Emma Appleton, Laurie Davidson and David Jonsson.

With their recently announced nominations, the 10th annual LMGI Awards will once again celebrate the location professionals making a significant impact in film, television, commercials and film commissions around the world. In addition, the evening will also see some longstanding contributors to the industry walking away with honorary awards such as the Lifetime Achievement award and the Trailblazer award. Marking the 20th anniversary of the Location Managers Guild International, this year’s ceremony will be held at The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica on 26 August 2023.

After negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed, the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) has gone on strike. The conflict pits its 11,500 members against major studios, like Universal and Paramount, as well as streamers such as Amazon, Apple and Netflix.  Immediate effects will be seen in late night talk shows and sketch shows, with programmes like Saturday Night Live and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert going dark immediately. Picketing will begin tomorrow outside Amazon, Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, Netflix, Sony, Universal and Fox.

Amazon has received a generous tax incentive totalling to USD 35. 3 million for television production in California. The streaming platform’s upcoming big-budget spy thriller debut Citadel will receive USD 25 million for relocating from the UK to California for its second season and an untitled project for the company will receive USD 10.3 million. This incentive pay out marks the largest sum ever offered by the state of California for a single film or television season.
