The casting for Disney+ much anticipated 8-part series Rivals, based on the much loved novel by Jilly Cooper, was announced on 21 March. Set against the backdrop of 1980’s England, the series will feature the same drama and success of the social elite featured in it’s original source inspiration. Produced by Happy Prince, which is a part of ITV Studios, the series will be filming at The Bottle Yard Studios’ new TBY2 facility.
The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol is expanding into a neighbouring industrial site. Scheduled for completion this summer, the film and television production facility will undergo a GBP12 million redevelopment supported by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA). This expansion is designed to create three new audio stages, increasing the total stages on offer to 11 and, in turn, maintaining the growth of media production infrastructure in Bristol and the West of England.
BBC dramas Showtrial, The Girl Before and Chloe, as well as The Long Call for ITV started rolling cameras in Bristol in April. All four dramas will feature Bristol locations and The Long Call will use the city as a base for on location filming on the North Devon Coast.
The National Trust is Europe’s largest conservation charity and cares for historic properties and countryside across the UK. Its properties have appeared in adaptations of each of Jane Austen’s six main novels, provided the real-life location of Winston Churchill’s home in The Darkest Hour, and key locations in long-running series such as Poldark and Downton Abbey.
Filming for the final series of The Spanish Princess took place in Bristol on a full-scale interconnected Tudor-era Westminster Palace set. Closeby locations including Wells and Gloucester Cathedrals, and Berkely Castle were used during the sixth month shoot.
Two-part drama The Pale Horse produced by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited doubled Bristol for famous London districts including Kings Road and Soho. The six week shoot from July to September 2019 was based in Bristol and included filming on location in the surrounding region.
The ten part US version, debuting on Nickelodeon, filmed at existing sets at the Bottleyard Studios, Bristol.
Set in London and the surrounding home counties Mammoth Screen's adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic science fiction novel stays true to the period Edwardian setting of the orginal novel, but substitutes southern locations in favour of doubles in the north-west of the UK.
