The nominees for the 11th annual LMGI Awards have been announced. Across seven categories, projects from Netflix, A24, HBO Max, Apple TV+ and more have been honoured including projects such as Baby Reindeer, Palm Royale, and Killers of the Flower Moon. The ceremony was will take place at The Wallis Annenburg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California on 24 August 2024.

Taking a step away from their celebrity centred campaign, Just Eat have enlisted the help of Wes Anderson style puppets to show the everyday nature of takeaways. In a series of short clips, the animals engage in the all too relatable habits of having a McDonald’s in bed or gathering with friends and enjoying Five Guys. The McCann London campaign was directed by the award winning Tim McNaugton of the Bobbsey Twins.

On 20 May, a panel of Black women international filmmakers came together to discuss the issues facing the marginalised group in the environment of international film production, challenges facing funding, distribution and the need for community. Moderated by Diversity in Cannes founder Yolanda Brinkley, the panel featured the testimonials and industry nuggets of wisdom from filmmaker and Collectif 50/50 board member Johanna Makabi, writer and director Zoey Martinson, writer and producer Kelley Robins Hicks, and Ida Rose CEO and producer Shantelle Rochester.

Filmmaker Wes Anderson’s trailer for his latest venture Asteroid City has been revealed. Coated in candied pastel tones, the trailer features quirky snapshot of Anderson’s signature symmetrical style. The film consists of  a star studded cast including Hong Chau, Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson. Asteroid City is set for limited theatre release on 16 June and wider release on 23 June.

Bluey, a cartoon dog, has entered the homes and hearts of many across the world. The Screen Australia and Screen Queensland financed animated series has gone on to win a series of Awards, highlighted thought provoking conversations through a childlike lens and was even featured in Macy's Thanksgiving parade. Originally from Australia, the series is available for streaming through Disney+.

15 titles have been selected for this year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Films included are festival favourites such as Maha Haj’s Mediterranean Fever and Lav Diaz’s When the Wave are Gone, along with international picks such as Polish Diretor Krzysztof Zanussi’s Perfect Number. Organised by India’s National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the festival will take place in Panjim, Goa from 20 to 28 November 2022.

Filmmakers for Ukraine launch charity screening programme

Starting today, 14 July 2022, Filmmakers for Ukraine (FFU), launched by Crew United, will be hosting a charity screening of various Ukrainian centred films, documentaries, and shorts films. The programme was put in place to support the Ukrainian film industry and encourage the international filmmaking community to learn about the country and community. All films will be available for viewing on Pantaflix, a German streaming platform.
