This year’s LMGI Awards saw Oppenheimer and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning-Part 1, take home the Motion Picture Award on Saturday 24 August. For their 11th annual awards ceremony, the organsiation celebrated a number of winners  including Fallout, Fargo and Ripley for their stand out location work, as well as a number of honourees for their contributions to the industry.

Multi-talented Michaela Coel is set to write, star in and executive produce a new 10 part series for HBO, co-produced with the BBC. The series titled First Day of Earth follows British novelist Henri, played by Coel, as she travels to Ghana to reconnect with her roots, finding everything is not as she expected. Made by Various Artists for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and in association with A24, filming will commence next year.

London’s BT tower stands tall amongst the city’s most notable high rises, but for Netflix’s The Union, the stand out building acts as the inconspicuous head quarters for the secret organisation after the film’s namesake. This would mark one amongst many  of the notable London sites featured in the new flick released Friday 16. Directed by Julian Farino from a script by Joe Barton and David Guggenheim, the film stars Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg.

The Location Managers International (LMGI) will honour the Motion Picture and Television Fund (MPTF) with the Humanitarian Award at the LMGI Awards 2024. MPTF will receive the award as they celebrate their 100th anniversary of aiding the entertainment community, This year’s ceremony will take place on Saturday 24 August at the Wallis Annenberg Centre for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California.

S.O.U.L Fest will make it’s much anticipated return showcasing a slate of projects at The MAC Birmingham on 29 August and the BFI Southbank from 30 August-1 September 2024. The festival, held in partnership with the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) will open with a screening and q&a for Sing Sing starring Colman Domingo.

Stop motion is the medium that transcends the tests of time, and Locarno Film Festival are recognising that with their honoring of Claude Barras. The master animator and creator of My Life as a Zucchini (Ma vie de Courgette)  will receive the Locarno Kida Award la Mobilaire at Locarno 77 today along with a screening of his latest film Sauvages.
