How The Good Place gained access for filming in LA’s Getty Centre

NBCUniversal’s The Good Place is one of the few projects to have gained access for filming in LA's Getty Centre. The Getty, a galley and campus with gardens and views overlooking the city has only permitted filming on three occasions in its twenty-five year history, previously featuring prominently as Starfleet HQ in Star Trek into Darkness. “They were casting the Getty Center as the Good Place – what could be better?” says Julie Jaskol, Assistant Director, Media Relations at The Getty.

1917 dominated the 2020 BAFTA Film Awards, sweeping seven of the categories. Joker entered the night with the most nominations which translated into three wins on the night. Awards season favourites including Parasite, Little Women, Jojo Rabbit and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood all found success but, despite being nominated in ten categories, The Irishman went home empty handed.

In June, Poznan Film Commission and Warsaw-based production services provider Filming Land, alongside the Polish Tourism Organisation and Mazovia Film Commission hosted a group of UK based producers for a three-day familiarisation trip. With the introduction of a 30% Polish cash rebate scheme in February, the tour combined a scouting trip with detailed information on how producers could benefit from the new rebate.

It is fair to say that in the UK, at least, Benidorm’s reputation precedes it. Having boomed on to the scene in the sixties with the advent of package holidays, it has maintained such a prominent position in British culture that it spawned ITV’s award-winning situational comedy Benidorm, about a group of British holidaymakers who visit the Spanish resort each year, that remained popular for its ten series run. Needless to say, with this my reference point I was more than intrigued to find out what the seaside city could offer to productions beyond the cliched image.
