Croatia’s blend of striking visuals and a 25-30% filming incentive programme has helped the country sustain a high production profile. Recent international productions have included Amazon Studios’ sci-fi drama Bliss which filmed in Split and the islands of Šolta and Lopud. HBO’s Sucession, about a well to do New York family, filmed along the beautiful Dalmatian coastline and its islands and further inland Summit Entertainment’s action comedy The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard shot in numerous locations across continental Croatia including Rovinj, Rijeka, Zagreb and Karlovac.
The true extent of Croatia’s varied locations can be seen with the production of BBC’s Emmy-Award winning crime drama McMafia which doubled the country for ten different countries and locations.
The incentive system allows for an additional 5% for filming in regions with below average development, bringing the total possible rebate to 30% of QPPE. Netflix sci-fi series Tribes of Europa is one production that has successfully accessed the 5% uplift.
Besides the production incentive that is administered on a first-come, first-served basis, a film project with international partners can also benefit from the selective minority co-production support by contacting the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.

The climate in the north and east is continental, Mediterranean along the coast and a semi-highland and highland climate in the south-central region. The climate is predominantly temperate.
In the capital, Zagreb, the average daily high in July is 27C, while in January it falls to 2C. Zagreb's annual rainfall is 924cm. The Adriatic coast has a more moderate, Mediterranean climate.
The average annual temperatures for the cities of Split and Dubrovnik are around 17C. The prevailing north-eastern winds include the maestral, which mitigates the heat in the summer.
The winter averages 49 days of snow cover. Neither Split nor Dubrovnik typically experience snow in the winter and each city averages more than 100 sunny days per year.
