Filming in Czech Republic

The BBC’s period adventure series The Musketeers was the highest spending international production in the Czech Republic in 2014, according to figures from the country’s Audiovisual Producers’ Association.

The show used locations around Prague to double for 17th century Paris, as suitable historical archi- tecture and visuals were easier to find.

The Czech Republic provides a 20% rebate on qualifying czech costs and 66% on witholding tax paid in the Czech Republic for feature films, documentaries, animation and TV shows. There is no per-project cap.

One of the biggest productions set for Prague going into 2016 will be gothic horror sequel Underworld: Next Generation, continuing the saga that pits vampires against werewolves. The shoot is likely to boost the country’s profile and help it compete with neighbours Germany and Hungary.

Recent commercial shoots have included a campaign for Visa Platinum, which involved staging a medieval battle at a castle near Prague.

We shot at a real castle located in Tocnik, Czech Republic, 50 minutes away from Prague. We were looking for a location to shoot an epic film, with great production value and including all the props and wardrobe we needed to achieve everything in the most cost-effective way. We researched several countries and cities, and Prague was the best option.
