Filming in Netherlands

Since the Netherlands Film Production Incentive launched in mid-2014 a number of high profile productions have chosen to film in the country. Among these are Christopher Nolan’s war film Dunkirk, The Hitman’s Bodyguard and Netflix series Sense8.

In March 2019 Warner Brothers’ film adaptation of The Goldfinch shot dramatic scenes in Amsterdam. A hotel room was created in an apartment looking out onto the cities famed canals.

The Netherlands has the flexibility to double for cities around the world that have a range of modern and period locations. In the case of Two Brother’s The Widow starring Kate Winslet Rotterdam’s modern European architecture provided the right contrast to the series’ African setting that the producers were looking for. Rotterdam’s modern architecture was highlighted by filming in locations like the De Rotterdam building on the waterfront.

Planned upcoming shoots include FX’s Atlanta which was awarded EUR555,000 under the Netherlands Film Production Incentive. Feature films can access the cash rebate of up to 35% and high-end TV productions can access 30% on production costs. Animation and post-production is also covered and credits include Brimstone (Venice Film Festival Competition 2015) and A Gentle Creature (Cannes Competition 2017).

The willingness of Walibi Holland to accommodate our crazy demands was evidently quite exceptional for amusement parks - it was the only amusement park worldwide willing to co-operate in their busiest time of the year.
