Filming in Serbia

Serbia now offers a 25% cash rebate and an expanded annual budget of EUR6.7 million, double the previous amount that was afforded to the incentive. With the increase comes a change to the criteria for television shows, which are now required to meet a minimum spend per-episode of EUR100,000 to qualify.

Under the new scheme, the required minimum spend for commercials is EUR100,000. This increases to EUR300,000 and EUR100,000 for film and TV respectively. There is no cap on the amount that can be claimed per project.

Among the projects that recently shot in Serbia are the BBC’s McMafia and Daniel Alfredson’s Intrigo: Death of an Author.

The Serbia Film Commission has also developed a partnership programme with public institutions and local government to create a more film friendly environment for international productions.

The Serbian capital offers diverse filming locations, from Ottoman-style architecture and the Austro- Hungarian buildings all the way to socialist architecture and ‘blocks’ of buildings in New Belgrade that I consider unique and interesting for filmmaking.”
