Tourism Australia has released their latest advertising campaign in the form of a fake trailer for a reboot of Crocodile Dundee. The commercial, which was created by Droga5, was shot in Lawn Hill Gorge, Mission Beach, Quay Restaurant in Sydney Harbour, Montalto Winery, Kangaroo Island and Cable Beach.
The Cry, an upcoming psychological drama for BBC One will be shot on location in Melbourne and Glasgow. Produced by Synchronicity Films, the four part series will work with Film Victoria and Creative Scotland to complete principal photography.
As part of a Government-led inquiry into the current growth and sustainability of Australia’s production industry, the heads at Screen Australia have detailed how funding cuts have negatively affected the country’s domestic output.
Queensland will be the host of a new Australia-China co-production entitled At Last, with principal photography set to begin on the Gold Coast in June. Orient Image Entertainment, Gravity Films, Shineland Media, China Lion and Screen Queensland will provide funding for the feature.
Garth Davis’s debut feature film, Lion was shot almost entirely in Tasmania and Calcutta. The film stars Dev Patel alongside Rooney Mara, Nicole Kidman and newcomer Sunny Pawar.
James Wan’s Aquaman will now be filmed in Australia’s Gold Coast, after an unspecified incentive deal was reached between Warner Bros. and the Queensland Government. The production is expected to bring in a local spend of AUS100 million, creating at least 600 new jobs in the process.
The sequel to 2013’s Pacific Rim has entered into production in Sydney, Australia. Entitled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, the sequel will pick up a number of years after the first film with Star Wars alum John Boyega set to star alongside Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad) and Jing Tian (Kong: Skull Island).
The Premier of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced that the world’s first exhibit to focus entirely on the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be coming to Australia in May 2017. The exhibit will make use of the current flow of film tourism, generated by the recent filming of Thor: Ragnarok on the Gold Coast.
Australia-based Taxi Film Production, a partner of the Production Service Network has filmed their latest commercial for IBM on an offshore oil rig. The spot demonstrates the practical use of Watson, a virtual assistant designed to help those who work in highly demanding and dangerous roles.
