Ian entered the film industry as an Assistant Cameraman and then an Assistant Director and he’s worked in commercials, features and documentaries around the world. His work has focused on the Rocky Mountain region of the US for more than 20 years.
Four separate organisations have partnered to promote uniform location filming guidelines throughout Southern California. The aim is to encourage the region’s 191 cities to adopt guidelines that are all broadly similar to make sure the film permitting process is as streamlined as possible.
International location filming for the first half of 2012 was nearly 20% above the figure for the whole of 2011, according to a report from the Thailand Film Office. The report cites gains for the US dollar against the Thai baht, as well as the film office’s intensive outreach at trade shows around the world.
North Carolina has extended its location filming incentive by a year to the end of 2014 as it eyes Marvel’s upcoming Captain America sequel. The state already has a relationship with the studio as Iron Man 3 is filming at the moment, using EUE/Screen Gem Studios as a base.
California’s location filming tax credit has been granted a two-year extension to 2015. Filming professionals in the state had been lobbying for a five-year extension and more money to increase the programme’s appeal, but a compromise was needed given the state of California’s finances.
An International Film Conference concludes tomorrow (27th June 2012) in the Philippines. Delegates from the region have been meeting in Manila to discuss the region’s film and tourism industries, with films like The Bourne Legacy having filmed in the the Philippines.
A new studio complex is being planned for development in Panama City in Central America. Announced by the country’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the project also involves Oscar-winning producer Jonathan Sanger and Location Manager Sam Tedesco.
