Jennifer Lawrence stars in Apple Originals and A24’s Causeway

Apple Originals and A24’s soldier drama Causeway is set to be released tomorrow, 4 November. The new film starring Jennifer Lawrence will be directed by Lila Neugebauer, making it her feature film debut.

Lawrence plays Lyndsey, a soldier returning home from Afghanistan to New Orleans, facing the trials and tribulations of civilian life after her war based experiences. Filmed in New Orleans, the A24 project was written by Ottessa Moshfegh, Luke Goebel and Elizabeth Sanders. Laurence along with Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver, will serve as producers on the project. In addition to directing, Neugebauer will executive produce.

Neugebauer, whose work has, up until now, been exclusive to Broadway productions such as The Waverly Gallery, Maid and The Last Thing He Told Me, will make her feature film directorial debut with Causeway.

Whilst dealing with the emotionally heavy topic surrounding trauma, Causeway captures the humanistic responses to getting reacquainted with normal life.  Emmy and Tony Award nominee Brian Tyree Henry will feature alongside Lawrence as James. Henry is known for his extensive resume including projects like Atlanta, Bullet Train, If Beale Street Could Talk, and Marvel’s Eternals.

Apple Originals are still riding on the high of the historic Academy award-winning success of CODA. Continuing of the momentum of that, the streaming service are growing their sate of high quality productions with projects such as Cha Cha Real Smooth, winner of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival US Dramatic Audience Award, Raymond & Ray, starring Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke, Peter Farrely’s The Greatest Beer Run Ever, the new dramedy featuring Zac Efron and Russel Crowe, modern musical rendition of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol called Spirited, starring Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer, and Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
